Miley Stewartová (Miley Cyrus) je obyčajné 16-ročné dievča s dvojitou identitou - v skutočnosti je ,,mladá popová senzácia" Hannah Montana. Pochádza zo štátu Tennessee a do Malibu sa presťahovala spoločne s otcom Robby Ray Stewartom (Billy Ray Cyrus) a so starším, aj keď dosť nešikovným a nechutným bratom Jacksonom Rodom Stewartom (Jason Earles). Jej mama Susan zomrela pár rokov predtým, než sa Miley stala speváčkou. Spriatelila sa s Lilian ,,Lilly" Truscottovou (Emily Osment) a Oliverom Okenom (Mitchel Musso), inak zvanom ,,frajer Oken". Zhodou náhod sú práve títo dvaja najväčšími fanúšikmi Hanny Montany. Po istom čase Lilly odhalí jej tajomstvo, ale pochopí to, čo viac utuží ich priateľstvo. S Oliverom je to iné, ten sníva o tom, že sa stane Hanniným manželom a Miley v obave, aby sa nezaľúbil aj do nej, je nútená mu svoje tajomstvo prezradiť. Z Lilly sa postupne stáva Lola Luftnaglová, dievčina, ktorá doprevádza Hannu a nosí krikľavé parochne. Celý seriál sa točí okolo príhod Miley/Hanny, Lilly/Loly, Olivera, pána Stewarta, Jacksonových výstrelkov a jeho mladého zamestnávateľa Rica (Moises Arias).
